About SGP Drywall

Some companies open their About page with adjectives. We’d rather open with the part that’s simply true: the family behind SGP Drywall has done drywall for three generations.

SGP officially started more than fifteen years ago. But the trade came first — passed down through the family, one generation teaching the next, until the people doing the work today carry more than 45 years of combined drywall experience between them. Nobody here learned drywall from a franchise manual. We learned it from each other.

That’s the whole origin story. The rest of this page is about what we do with it.

Residential drywall, all of San Diego County

We do one category of work and we stay in it: residential drywall, everywhere in San Diego County — coastal, inland, North County, East County, South Bay.

Within that lane, the work breaks into four services. Drywall repair — patches, holes, cracks, and the openings other trades leave behind. Drywall installation — full rooms, additions, garages, and ADUs, from hang through finish. Retexturing and texture matching — blending a repair into the surrounding wall, or bringing a whole ceiling back to one uniform finish. And water-damage reconstruction — rebuilding walls and ceilings after a leak or flood, once the drying is done.

Different jobs, same standard: when we’re finished, you shouldn’t be able to tell where the work was.

Photos first, straight answers throughout

Most jobs start the same way: you send us photos, and we can usually provide guidance from photos first — often a full quote, without waiting on a site visit. Pricing follows the things that actually drive the work: the size of each patch, where it sits, and how many there are. The number we agree on is the number on the invoice.

Ask our customers what they appreciate and the same three things come up again and again: communication, flexibility, and no nickel-and-diming. We’re not going to dress those up as a philosophy. They’re just how we’d want to be treated if we were the ones hiring a contractor.

The crew fits the job, not the other way around. A small patch gets a single technician; a full build gets a crew of up to fifteen; and multiple projects can run at the same time, so a big job on the calendar doesn’t push a small one off it.

What the work adds up to

We’d rather give you plain numbers than superlatives, so here are the ones we actually stand behind.

Over the last five years, we’ve averaged about five drywall repairs a day — thousands of repairs across San Diego County. Over the last ten years, we’ve run about three ADU drywall projects a week, right through San Diego’s ADU boom. And across the last 25 years of the family’s homebuilding, the generations behind SGP have hung and finished drywall on more than 40 custom and spec homes a year.

That volume isn’t the point in itself. The point is what it produces: there isn’t much left in residential drywall we’re seeing for the first time. The discontinued texture, the awkward ceiling angle, the patch in the one wall the whole room looks at — someone in this family has already met it.

Homeowners first — and the trades who work for them

Most of our work is for homeowners: a repair that’s been on the list too long, a remodel that needs new walls, a ceiling that needs to stop announcing an old leak.

We also work as a drywall partner for San Diego trades and businesses — restoration companies, plumbers, general contractors and ADU builders, electricians, HVAC crews, and remodelers whose work opens walls. Partners hand the repair off completely: we manage all the scheduling directly with their customers and run the repair start to finish, so it never becomes a project their office has to carry. If that’s you, the details are on our drywall repair partner page.

Either way, the promise is the same one: residential drywall, built around precision — not volume.

If you’ve got a wall on your mind

No pressure and no hard sell — that’s not how we got to three generations. Send photos for a quick review and we’ll tell you what we see, what we’d do, and what it would take.
